BUILDER AND TRADE LICENSING – QUEENSLAND DEMERIT POINT SYSTEM

At License2Build all of our clients are seeking to get licensed.  Whether it is a licence as a trade, builder, site supervisor or company contractor.  Once you obtain your licence, you have been given a level of trust about how you carry on your business.  If you don’t adhere to rules, standards, codes and other legislation, you can attract demerit points.

Offences can attract anything from 2 to 10 demerit points, depending on the offence committed.  If you get 30 demerit points in a 3-year period, you can’t hold a licence for 3 years. If, within 10 years of the first disqualification, you again accumulate 30 demerit points over a 3-year period, you’ll get a lifetime disqualification.  Accumulating demerit points when you are not licensed will affect your ability to apply for a licence.

HOW WILL I GET DEMERIT POINTS?

Demerit points are issued if you don’t:

  • pay Queensland Home Warranty Insurance premiums

  • follow QBCC directions to rectify defective or incomplete work

  • meet your legislative requirements

  • pay judgment debts (i.e. debts ordered by a court or tribunal).
